Artful Design and Modern Luxury Beside Tiergarten

SO/ Berlin Das Stue occupies a former Danish embassy building adjacent to Tiergarten park and Berlin Zoo. The hotel blends mid-century architecture with contemporary design, creating a refined yet artistic atmosphere.

Rooms and suites are minimalist and elegant, featuring clean lines, curated artwork, and views over the Tiergarten or embassy gardens. The overall mood is calm and sophisticated, with an emphasis on design and spatial harmony.

Dining focuses on modern Mediterranean flavours, while wellness facilities include a spa and pool. Its green surroundings and proximity to Berlin’s cultural west make Das Stue a distinctive, design-led retreat.

Heritage of the Danish Embassy

Das Stue occupies the heritage-protected former Royal Danish Embassy, a striking 1930s landmark designed by Johann Emil Schaudt, the architect behind the iconic KaDeWe. Original parquet floors and period details coexist with contemporary art, including surreal leather animal sculptures by Omersa & Co that pay homage to the neighbouring Berlin Zoo. Each floor reveals a distinct character shaped by the building's diplomatic past.

Susanne Kaufmann Spa Rituals

A 260-square-metre sanctuary unfolds with a 14-metre pool overlooking the Tiergarten, a Finnish sauna, and three intimate treatment rooms. Therapists employ the acclaimed botanical formulations of Susanne Kaufmann for deeply nurturing rituals designed for both individual guests and couples. A fully equipped Technogym fitness studio with personal trainers completes the holistic wellbeing offering of this refined urban retreat.

Carte Blanche French Brasserie

Carte Blanche brings the art of classical French dining to Berlin's Tiergarten quarter, presenting refined dishes such as perfectly grilled entrecôte and delicate truffle pasta prepared with the finest seasonal ingredients. As evening descends, the Stue Bar captivates with an eclectic cocktail repertoire and playful interiors, while its verdant terrace offers an al fresco escape enveloped by the greenery of the surrounding parkland.

Rooms & Suites

The accommodations at Hotel Zoo Berlin offer refined comfort paired with striking views of the city’s most iconic surroundings. The inviting Stue Rooms, located on the 1st to 5th floors, provide 27 sqm of serene space filled with natural light through expansive panoramic windows, ideal for travelers eager to explore Berlin. The stylish Embassy Rooms, set within the former Danish Embassy, overlook the Berlin Zoo or Tiergarten Park, blending modern design with impressive vistas. For an elevated stay, the Penthouse Suite captivates with floor-to-ceiling windows framing landmarks such as the Memorial Church, Tiergarten, and the Zoo. The expansive Bel Etage Suite spans 110 sqm with separate living and sleeping areas, dual luxury bathrooms, and an 80 sqm terrace offering unique views of the zoo. When combined with the Stue Suites and Bel Etage Salon, these spaces create an extraordinary private residence of nearly 400 sqm.

Verdict

SO/ Berlin Das Stue has the confidence of a building that was already remarkable before anyone had the idea of turning it into a hotel: the heritage-listed former Royal Danish Embassy, designed by Johann Emil Schaudt in the 1930s, carries the whole project effortlessly. The Susanne Kaufmann Spa with its Tiergarten-facing pool and the French brasserie Carte Blanche round out a stay that appeals to guests who want design and culture in equal measure, with the park on their doorstep.

This is now my favorite hotel ever! Beside the gorgeous decor, fantastic food and comfortable well appointed room (with view of Berlin Zoo!) every staff member from wait staff to concierges were warm, professional and beyond helpful. Special thanks to Mattia, who is a stand out person and whose efforts made us feel at home in a new city!

We had a wonderful few days here. Everyone was really kind with the kids and and the private entrance to the zoo is magical. Pool and proximity to the park are wonderful too. Feels like little green oasis in the middle of the city. We loved the library and bar as well. The team at breakfast and at reception are really wonderful too.

My stay at SO/ Berlin was truly enjoyable in every way. The hotel is modern, well-designed, and above all, spotlessly clean, something I really appreciated. The room I was assigned was spacious, featuring both a shower and a bathtub, as well as a balcony, which made the stay even more comfortable.

From a warmly welcoming check-in experience (the staff seem very familiar with the zombie-like state of travelers arriving off a red-eye transatlantic flight) to a flawlessly adaptable and welcoming staff at the bar, restaurant, and front desk - SO Berlin Das Stue exists as a beacon of calm and rest.

Compliments to the exterior and interior designers, there’s something of interest to see on every wall and in every corner of every room, yet it all remains perfectly harmonious. Walk out the door strait into nature.
