A timeless retreat floating above the architectural wonders of the Florence skyline

Perched in the hills just above Florence’s historic core, Collegio alla Querce blends old-world grandeur with contemporary refinement. Originally a monastery and later a prestigious boarding school, the estate has been reimagined as a refined retreat while preserving the soul of its past. A sweeping drive lined with cypress trees leads to centuries-old buildings wrapped around tiered gardens, their stone facades gently weathered by time.

Step inside and you’ll find vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors, and intricate woodwork balanced by minimalist design and custom Italian furnishings. Rooms and suites are spread across restored cloisters and former classrooms, some with views over olive groves, others catching glimpses of the Duomo through leafy treetops. Details like hand-painted fresco fragments, original chapel doors, and locally crafted ceramics lend each space a quiet sense of history.

Outside, tranquility reigns. The gardens unfold in soft terraces, each level offering something different - a sculpture here, a secluded bench there, and, at the center, a 35-meter pool that mirrors the sky. The estate’s spa draws on Tuscan botanicals for its treatments, housed in a stone vault that once held the monks’ wine. As the sun dips behind the hills, guests gather at the restaurant, where seasonal menus highlight produce from the surrounding countryside, and wines come from nearby Chianti estates.

With just 83 rooms and an atmosphere of understated elegance, Collegio alla Querce invites guests to slow down and sink into the rhythm of a place where every path, archway, and carved lintel has a story to tell - a peaceful, cultivated world just moments from the heart of Florence.

Nestled amidst the rolling hills and countryside of Tuscany, the longevity and experience-led wellbeing space, Aelia, offers a sanctuary for replenishment and holistic well-being. A journey through Italy, the varied dining venues include a destination restaurant, a glass-enclosed garden room for all day dining, a sophisticated bar and cigar lounge set in the former academic admissions office, and an outdoor pool bar offering lunch and cocktails nestled amongst the old growth olives and soaring oak trees.

"A historic property that was once a private college campus, beautifully restored into a luxury resort. Quiet and elegant, with excellent service. Located off the beaten path, so you'll need to arrange transportation to explore the city, but this also offers more privacy. Many taxi and uber drivers mentioned they’d never seen anything like it in Florence."
